Women Revolutionising Housing

A Retreat for Professional Development and Personal Nourishment

8-10 June 2021 at Tauhara Lodge in Taupo

Tuesday 2pm to Thursday 2pm

Why the need for a retreat?

Quality housing is the foundation of human thriving.  We are fed up with seeing the well-being and potential of our children, communities and future generations being compromised by low quality, expensive and insecure housing.

Women across Aotearoa are creating and leading bold and innovative housing initiatives that are redefining housing as a catalyst for thriving communities, that reconnect us to each other and the earth.  But, most of us are working in isolation or with limited teams and pushing the paradigm, working outside the box and this is impeding the effectiveness of our potential.

Women have a unique and powerful way of contributing to housing development and place-making, but we cannot do this transformational work alone; together we can achieve more.

Join us for two full days of inspiration about change that is already gaining traction, networking with dynamic women, and exploration of what is possible to revolutionise housing in Aotearoa New Zealand.

There will be time for personal nourishment and professional enrichment. We aim for you to leave the retreat feeling replenished, connected, upskilled, and ready to roar and soar.

Who is it for?

This is an invitation to any woman who feels passionately about creating better places to live--better for people and nature--through housing; creating homes and neighbourhoods that are about connection, belonging, and meaning....

This retreat is welcoming those who have worked valiantly in this area for many years and for those who are just starting out with big plans and new enthusiasm.   We are a group of diversely talented women working on a wide range of housing initiatives throughout the cities and towns of Aotearoa.

What's in this for you?

  • Explore solutions to our common challenges of evolving housing in Aotearoa in equitable, affordable and sustainable ways.
  • Learn about and celebrate the unique influence and contribution that women's efforts and voices can contribute to this sector and discuss how we can grow our numbers, participation and effectiveness.
  • Socialize, have fun, eat well
  • Get top tips and identify key resources that will support our projects/initiatives
  • Bring our unique perspectives and passions to share with each other
  • Be supporting each other to succeed

Schedule

  • The programme is still in creation stage but will include activities that will deepen our connections, are playful, relaxing, energizing and stimulating, nourishing, practical, relevant and inspirational.  The schedule will be put on this page shortly and will be sent by email.

Lead a Discussion or Activity

Some aspects of the programme are open for participants to lead an activity--such as early morning movement, karakia, waiata, icebreaker games, and other creative offerings.

Some of the programme will be “world cafe” meaning that the topics are crowd-sourced from participants before arrival so that topics that are most relevant to you will be on offer.  We welcome you to facilitate a discussion of a topic for a 45 min - 1 hour time slot.

Email the organisers if you would like to lead an activity or facilitate a discussion topic.

We are so glad you’d like to come!   Please arrive on time and gift yourself the time to attend the whole retreat.  The schedule is intentionally created with a flow of energy and activity from start to finish

We want to ensure that finance doesn’t impede any woman from coming so we’ve made a few price points and we are also offering financial assistance.  Email the organizers with your request for financial assistance.

We do not provide childcare but if you want to bring your own childcare or if you are nursing and need to bring your infant, please let us know so we can ensure you have the support you need.

Lodging and Food

Tauhara Centre was chosen because of its connections with the beginning of the modern co-housing movement in Aotearoa, where Robin Allison participated in retreats from which was born the Earthsong Eco-Neighbourhood.

See the different accommodation types here.

Prices include all meals from tea and dinner on the first night to lunch on the last day.  They cater for all dietary needs.  The meals are buffet-style vegan.

Support the Kaupapa

This is a not-for-profit event and we want the retreat to be inclusive for any woman who wants to attend to be able to do so.  Most women who are driving housing change in their communities are doing so in addition to other work and family responsibilities.   Attending this retreat will give participants the support network and connections they need to thrive,...

This event is a great opportunity for individuals who would like to continue or start participating in creating innovative housing alternatives to come together, share experiences and learn, getting and giving support to each other.

This retreat is an essential network event to unlock key business connections for professional women in this field.

Transport Sharing

We’d like to help you find or share a ride to the Centre to keep costs and emissions lower.

We have created a spreadsheet where you can put your need for or offer of a ride, where you’re travelling from and your contact details.
