INSPIRING COMMUNITIES
AND PROJECTS
RAGLAN ECOVILLAGE PROJECT
A regenerative ecovillage settlement contributing to the social, ecological and economic wellbeing of the place and the region
It aims to be a flagship project that demonstrates a model of integrated-systems development that will become an example and inspiration on how we can develop and live in a sustainable and regenerative way that will inspire the people of New Zealand.
LOTUS ECOVILLAGE
The Lotus Eco Village is comprised of a group of people living in regular nuclear households, on a common site but with a vision of how a different way of living could be more sustaining individually, collectively, and globally.
Our vision is to build a cohousing community that is designed with our basic needs in mind, while also caring forthe earth that sustains us.
URBAN HABITAT COLLECTIVE
The Urban Habitat Collective is demonstrating
*What great quality, medium density housing looks like
*That a group of households can build their homes collectively
*That principles inspired by co-housing work in an urban, New Zealand context
I spoke with Bronwen Newton, the project initiator and champion, about why she started the project, why non-speculative housing is so important to solve our housing crisis, and how she has overcome the challenges of being a resident-led housing developer.
TĀKAKA CoHOUSING
By honouring our Wairua, we connect deeply with others and together support the health of Papatūānuku.
As stewards of this historic whenua, we seek to recognise its past, understand its present, and use this information to help guide its future.
We’re working as kaitiaki alongside Manawhenua ki Mōhua to sustain the lands essence and restore the natural environment.
QUEENSTOWN LAKES COMMUNITY HOUSING TRUST
In 2007, the Queenstown Lakes District Council recognised an issue in the lack of affordable housing and acted upon it by initiating the formation of the Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust (QLCHT). This trust is an independent, not for profit, community owned organisation.
While there is a steady stream of people willing to move into the District, an unusually high percentage of these people leave the district after 12-18 months. The reasons cited are usually due to the high living costs, with the largest of those being the cost of housing.
EARTHSONG
ECO-NEIGHBOURHOOD
Earthsong is an innovative urban cohousing development in west Auckland, New Zealand, and a model of socially and environmentally sustainable urban living.
As our contribution to a peaceful and healthy planet, we make available on this website extensive information about our design, systems and processes.
